WisprFlow
WisprFlow is voice-to-text that works everywhere on your computer. Hold a key, speak, and your words appear — in any app, any text field, any browser tab.
It's one of the highest-ROI tools in this entire stack. If you spend a significant part of your day typing, you'll save hours a week.
wisprflow.ai — Mac and Windows.
Why not just use voice mode in Claude or ChatGPT?
You can, and it's useful. But built-in voice mode only works inside that one app. WisprFlow works everywhere:
- Email (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail)
- Slack and Teams messages
- Notion, Google Docs, Word
- WhatsApp Web
- Any text field in any browser
- The Claude chat window itself
One shortcut, your whole computer. You don't have to be in a specific app or remember to switch modes.
What it's actually for
Emails and messages. Most people type slower than they think. Speaking a rough draft of an email — even an imperfect one — and then tidying it with Claude is dramatically faster than composing from scratch.
Notes and captures. Had an idea? A follow-up you need to remember? Something a client mentioned on the phone? Hold the key, say it out loud, done. No opening a new app, no finding the right document.
Long prompts. The quality of your AI output scales with the quality of your prompt. But writing a detailed prompt is slow. Speaking it is fast — and WisprFlow handles long, complex dictation well.
WhatsApp and Slack. These are apps most people type on their phone. On a computer with WisprFlow, you speak them. Much faster.
Setup
- Download from wisprflow.ai
- Sign in and choose your shortcut key (default is
fn— hold it to record, release to transcribe) - Grant microphone permissions
- That's it
The first time you use it, it might take a few seconds to calibrate to your voice. After that it's instant.
Language settings: WisprFlow handles multiple languages and accents well. If you're switching between languages (or mixing them), it generally keeps up.
Tips
Don't try to be perfect. Speak naturally, including filler words — WisprFlow cleans them up. You don't need to dictate like a Victorian court reporter.
Use it for rough drafts. The goal is to get something on the page quickly. You can clean it up afterwards, or hand it to Claude with: "Tidy this up — it was dictated."
Combine with Claude. Dictate a rough prompt, let Claude do the work, dictate your feedback. You never have to type a long message.
Try it on Slack. This is where most people have the biggest "why didn't I know about this earlier" moment. Messages you'd normally tap out on your phone in 90 seconds take 10 seconds to speak on your laptop.

WisprFlow and Mac Dictation are transcription tools — they turn speech into text. ChatGPT and Claude voice modes are conversational — you speak, the AI replies. Different jobs.
The keyboard shortcut is the whole experience. Choose one you'll remember and that doesn't conflict with anything else you use. Most people use fn, but right option or a mouse button also work well.
